This Kokan India Tour describes a coastal journey from the southern state of Kerala, through the southern part of Karnataka, and into the state of Goa. This route typically involves a mix of cultural experiences, scenic beaches, and historical sites like Bekal Fort, culminating in the popular tourist destination of Goa. 

Detailed Itinerary

On arrival Cochin, you will receive a warm welcome at the International Airport by our representative.

After meet & greet transfer to hotel in Cochin. On arrival check in at hotel (check in time 1500 hrs).

Today after breakfast proceed for Cochin city tour.

Start by visiting Mattencherry Palace Museum or Dutch Palace - which was built by the Portuguese in 1555 and renovated by the Dutch in 1663. In the ancient rooms are 17th century murals that relate in vibrant color the story of the epic Ramayana.

Later Proceed to visit Jewish Synagogue (05 minutes walking distance). The Jewish synagogue built in Jew Town in 1568 is a beautiful structure. This place of worship attracts numerous visitors every year because of its impressive furnishings. There are splendid Chinese tiles and impressive Belgian chandeliers that have been used to decorate throughout the entire synagogue.

Also visited St. Francis Church the gravestone of Vasco-da-Gama at St. Francis Church in Kochi is a major attraction there. Incidentally, after 14 years of his death, the remains were taken away to Lisbon in Portugal. The church has gabled timber-framed roof covered with tiles. The doors and windows of the church have semi-circular arches. The facades are flanked on either side by a stepped pinnacle. The bell turret of St. Francis Church at Kochi is divided into three compartments. Inside the church, the gravestones of the Portuguese are on the northern wall and the Dutch is on the southern wall.

Continue by walk to see the Chinese Fishing Nets, introduced by the Chinese traders and unique to this part of Kerala and living symbols of a centuries-old Chinese influence on this coast. One can see local fishing market around it.

In the evening, witness Kathakali dance performance.

 Kathakali is the classical dance-drama of Kerala, dates from the 17th century and is rooted in Hindu mythology. Kathakali has a unique combination of literature, music, painting, acting and dance.

Kathakali draws heavily from drama and is danced with elaborate masks and costumes. Kathakali recitals are generally long and while other dance forms are more emotive than narrative, Kathakali is both. It combines dance with dialogue to bring myth and legend to life in the temple courtyards of Kerala. The dancers use their stunning costumes and make- up, with the accompaniment of drums and vocalists, to create various moods and emotions.

Post breakfast proceed to Calicut en-route visit Guruvayupur which is 105 Km (approx. 2.5hrs drive) from Cochinand, there we will visit Elephant Camp.

Elephant Camp- It is basically Domestic Elephant camp where total no. of Elephants are 60. These elephants are taken care by Deva swam (an organization run by Kerala Government). These elephants are used during major temple festivals & processions to carry the temple idol like the Shiveli procession. One can watch the bathing & feeding of elephant by Devaswam people.

After lunch proceed to Calicut which is 120 km away from Guruvayupur (approx. 2.5 hrs drive). Arrive Calicut and transfer to hotel.

After breakfast, check out from hotel and proceed to visit Beypore boat building Yard

Beypore has a tradition of ship building that is about 1500 yrs. Old. Generally people from Gulf countries Order these boats as per their requirement and after completion of the same they take it from themselves. It takes one & half year to complete one boat and cost for the same will be from 1.5 Cr. to 05 Cr. (depending upon size of the boat).

(Note: Boat building is not a year round process and operation of the boatyard is based on the order they get. It remain closed on all public and local holidays)

Later proceed to Sargalaya Village (35 Km from Calicut /45 mins drive). A Village established by Kerala Government to promote their local Handicrafts. It is an initiative to put Kerala's traditional handicrafts on the tourism trail. They focus on creating a tourist destination, centered on hands-on interaction between tourists and artisans, who create, display and market their crafts on site. The strategy being, to make Kerala's traditional crafts an integral part of the tourism experience while also providing sustainable development for the artisans economically.

Later continue drive to Bekal & check-in at your hotel.

After breakfast visit Bekal Fort. The unique Bekal Fort stands amidst the roaming but heartening music of the seas along with the eternal note of theUnending waves, carrying the thrilling memories of a bygone era.

Fort at Bekal is one of the largest and best preserved forts in Kerala. The beautiful expanse of the shallow beach near the Bekal fort known as Bekal Fort Beach has been developed as an exotic beach location by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) In 1992 Bekal fort was declared as Special tourist Place by ASI.The BRDC was set up by the Government of Kerala to develop Bekal as a planned eco-friendly destination.

Later proceed to Nityanand Ashram 12 km away from Bekal. The Nityanandashram, which is situated on the hillock, was founded by Swami Nityananda. The spot was at first part of a forest area. Here Swami Nityananda constructed 45 guhas (caves) in a mountain slope. There is a temple built in 1963, after the style and design of the famous Samantha Temple in Gujarat. A full size statue of Swami Nityananda in sitting posture made of panchaloha is one of the attractions of the ashram.

Post breakfast drive to Mangalore and check-in to the hotel.

Later proceed to visit St. Aloysius Church and St. Aloysius College chapel.

St. Aloysius College Chapel is an architectural marvel that could stand comparison with the chapels of Rome. What make this chapel unique compared to the other chapels in the country are the beautiful paintings that virtually cover every inch of the walls. Moscheni from Italy is the creator of such a master piece. One portion of the chapel paintings depicts the life of Aloysius Gonzaga to whom Aloysius College and chapel are dedicated. Saint Aloysius gave his life in the service of others. There is an amazing sense of belongingness and peace inside the chapel. The interiors are well decorated. The paintings of this chapel are preserved by a recognized board of the nation which maintains and restores all historic artifacts.

Also visit Thousands pillar temple of Moodbidri (30 Km/01 hrs. drive).

Moodbidri is known as the 'Jain Kashi' of South India and it is an ancient center of Jain learning. Moodbidri houses 18 Jain temples (basadis). The oldest of them is the 15th century ChandranathaBasadi, which is also known as the 1000 (Thousand) Pillars temple or 'SaviraKambadabasadi'.

A 15-meter tall single stone pillar called manastambha stands in front of the basadi.The Jain Mutt near the main temple entrance has a library protecting some beautiful 12th and 13th century palm leaf manuscripts.

Post breakfast proceed to visit Gokarnanath Temple 03 km away from the Mangalore. An important temple in Mangalore, built in 1912. It’s a unique temple built by Sri Narayana Guru, the saint and social reformer from Kerala, and is the only one in Karnataka by Guru. The reformist Narayana Guru installed this temple for the Billava community, who were prohibited the entry to other temples. Gokarnanatheshwara, Lord Shiva, is the main deity. The main temple is surrounded by the smaller temples for Mahaganapathi, Subramanya, Shaneeshwara, the Navagraha, Annapoorneswari and Anandabhairava. Murals, showing a variety of scenes from legends, mythology and epics, of different gods and goddesses decorate four gopuras, pillars in this temple constructed in the Tamil Nadu style. The major festivals celebrated with enthusiasm are Navaratri and Shivratri.

Later you will transfer to Mangalore railway station to board train for Gokarna.

Upon arrival Gokarna Road railway station and tranfered to SWASWARA RESORT, Gokarna.

Gokarna, which means the cow’s ear, is a holy site located on the Karavali Coast nestled between the rivers of Agnashini and the Gangavali. The center is known for housing the famous Shiva Temple where the ‘Aatmalinga’ is located. It is believed that Aatmalinga of Lord Shiva is in the shape of a cow’s ear, thus giving rise to the name, Gokarna.

Basilica of Bom Jesus: The Basilica of Bom Jesus, houses the mortal and visible remains of Goa’s Patron, Saint Francis Xavier, in the silver casket. The Church is also considered “World Heritage Monument.”

ST. Cathedral: Situated on the other side of the road from Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa. It houses 14 magnificent Alters and 05 bells of which one is the famous Golden Bell said to have been heard all over Goa.

Panjim City: Panjim is the capital of Goa. The city is built on the banks of river Mondovi. One can walk through the small squares and back lanes of the town’s old quarters where the Portuguese influence is most evident. One can also indulge in a bit of shopping as well. In the evening one can enjoy the one hour boat cruise on the MandoviRiver which starts from 6 pm. The boat cruises on the Mandovi River where one can get a glimpse of the city from the river.
